As the new Boiler Upgrade scheme gets ready to launch the current EPC Ratings system has come into question by the UK Government. The standard EPC ratings system is being reviewed as an energy scoring system for homes after warnings that installing a new environmentally friendly heat pump could reduce a property’s value. The EPC ratings system is stated as being archaic and no longer fit for purpose. This is important as a home must be scored on construction and whenever it is sold or rented.
Energy performance certificates (EPCs) are a rating scheme to summarise the energy efficiency of buildings. A building is given a rating between A (Very efficient) to G (Inefficient), the EPC will also include some information regarding cost effective ways to improve the energy rating of a building. Energy performance certificates are used in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. More details will be released in due course from https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate.
