Ben had been looking to get on the property ladder but like a lot of young people was struggling with increasing house prices and rising living costs and thought he’d never be able to buy his own home.
Ben knew he had a lot of good practical skills and was good at piecing things together, so he looked into building his own home as an alternative to buying, and after a lot of research Ben set out and acquired some land and a kit house and started on his own grand design.
Ben, being environmentally conscious and aware of the impact of carbon emissions, knew he wanted to make the house as environmentally friendly and energy efficient as possible, and with him being a trainee heat pump engineer the obvious choice for heating his new home was an air source heat pump!
With a heat loss of only 10W, Ben’s new build home is highly insulated, being made from an innovative ‘plastic brick’ construction, this also meant Ben’s heat pump running costs would be cheap in comparison to a traditional gas or oil boiler.
The installation took around 20 minutes, which is probably a world record, but Ben doesn’t like to brag. He said:
“The training I’ve had through my apprenticeship and the skills I have learnt whilst working at IMS have been great and I felt ready to tackle my first solo installation. I couldn’t be happier that I got to install my own heat pump in my own home, I’m over the moon with how it works”.
Ben now lives happily in his cosy cottage and is looking forward to a future of cheap bills and warm winters, thanks to his VaillantUK heat pump.
