Solar panels capture daylight and convert it into clean, usable electricity for your home. Even with Scotland’s variable weather, modern solar PV systems work efficiently all year round, making them a practical choice for homes across Angus. From brighter summer months to overcast winter days, solar continues to generate power whenever there is daylight.
IMS designs and installs bespoke solar PV and battery storage systems throughout Forfar and surrounding areas, including Kirriemuir, Brechin, Montrose, Arbroath, and Dundee. We understand the local housing stock — from traditional stone-built properties and rural homes to newer developments — and tailor each system to suit your roof, energy use, and lifestyle.
By adding a home battery, you can store surplus electricity generated during the day and use it later in the evening or overnight. This means more of the energy you produce is used by you, improving efficiency and consistency. Our in-house team manages everything from the initial survey to installation and long-term aftercare, ensuring a smooth and straightforward transition to solar energy.
Our Which? Trusted Trader endorsement is a mark of trust, telling you we’re a business you can count on. Our customer service, work quality, and how we do business always meet high standards. This means we’re dedicated to giving you great service and top-quality installations.
Solar panels and battery storage allow you to generate, store, and use your own renewable electricity rather than relying solely on the national grid. Every unit of energy you produce and consume yourself reduces exposure to changing energy tariffs and improves long-term household energy stability.
This can be especially valuable for family homes or properties with regular daytime electricity use. With a battery in place, energy generated earlier in the day can still power your home in the evenings and mornings — helping you make smarter use of what you produce.
A home battery helps ensure the electricity your solar panels generate doesn’t go to waste. Instead of exporting surplus energy during the day, you can store it and use it later when demand is higher — such as during cooking, home working, or overnight use.
Battery storage also supports better energy management throughout the day, helping balance generation and consumption more effectively. If your battery is fully charged, any additional electricity can still be exported through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), ensuring your system continues to work efficiently. For Forfar homes seeking greater energy independence, solar and battery storage are a natural fit.
Switching to solar energy helps reduce household carbon emissions and lowers reliance on fossil fuels. By generating and storing your own renewable electricity, you’re contributing to a cleaner local energy system and supporting Scotland’s wider net-zero ambitions.
For communities like Forfar and the surrounding Angus countryside, solar power offers a practical way to protect the local environment while futureproofing homes against changing energy demands.

1. Do solar panels work well in Forfar’s climate?
Yes. Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not just direct sunshine, so they work effectively even in Scotland’s often cloudy conditions. While output is higher in spring and summer, modern systems continue to generate useful energy throughout the year in Angus.
2. Is my Forfar home suitable for solar panels?
Most homes are suitable for solar PV, including detached, semi-detached, terraced, and rural properties. Factors such as roof orientation, pitch, shading, and condition are assessed during a survey so the system can be designed specifically for your home.
3. Can I add battery storage to existing solar panels?
In many cases, yes. Battery storage can often be retrofitted to existing solar PV systems, allowing you to store surplus electricity and increase self-consumption. Our team will assess compatibility and recommend the most suitable battery solution.
4. Which battery systems do you install?
IMS installs leading home battery systems including Tesla Powerwall 3, GivEnergy, and Fox ESS. Each offers reliable storage, smart monitoring, and long-term performance. We’ll help you choose the right option based on your household’s energy use and space.
5. Which areas near Forfar do you cover?
Alongside Forfar, IMS installs solar panels and battery storage across Angus and nearby areas, including Kirriemuir, Brechin, Montrose, Arbroath, Dundee, and surrounding rural communities. Our local teams are ready to support homeowners throughout the region.
